Image intensifier is an X-ray image intensifier that converts an invisible X-ray image into a visible image, and enhances the brightness of the image.

The resolution of the X-ray image intensifier is limited by the resolution of the input-output fluorescent screen and the ability of the focusing electrode to hold the image as it passes from the input screen to the output screen.For image intensifiers with CsI input screen, the average resolution is 4 line pairs/mm.

The reasons for the resolution reduction originating outside the image intensifier include: scattered radiation in the x-beam received by the input screen;The patient’s motion and the limited size of the focal spot cause the image to be out of focus.

The resolution, brightness and contrast of the image generated by the X-ray image intensifier are maximized at the center of the image and gradually decrease towards the periphery. The brightness reduction along the periphery of the image is usually no more than 25%.
